Chapter 9 The Fight for Immortality Part 1

"Who dat?" Greyson asked confused as I lead my three visitors in.
I wished they had at least called to let me know, so I could prepare myself and Jessie for that. "That's Auntie Rain," I said pointing, "and that’s Vincenzo and that's Luciano, Leviticus daddy," I said introducing them all.
Greyson got a stubborn look in his eye, "No that not Lef daddy."
"Yes it is," I countered, worried about the look on Luciano's face, this was not how I wanted them to find out about Jessie.
"No Lef daddy, my daddy," he told me.
"No," I said and before Greyson could say anything I turned to the others, "I'm just going to put him to bed," I explained. Luckily he was due for his afternoon sleep and he didn't kick up to much of a fuss.
"I see your expecting again, Larnika," was the first thing he said when I walked out. I frowned I didn't think I was showing and I hadn't told Rain.
Vincenzo smirked, "You do get around, don't you?"

I don't why but the comment hurt, and it was so out of character for Vincenzo. At least the Vincenzo I knew.
"I've been seeing someone, he's going to move in," I told them all, trying to sound firm.
"Is that right?" Vincenzo asked a sarcastic tone to his voice.
"Yes," I snapped. All of a sudden I was beginning to feel like  the kid in the playground surrounded by bullies.
"Where's Leviticus?" Luciano questioned, sounding no friendlier than Vincenzo.
"He turned five yesterday," I told him in an accusing tone, "so he's gone to get a hair cut and some new clothes."
"With who?" Luciano asked his voice cold and unimpressed.
"Jessie," I said after a long pause.
Luciano didn't look happy, "Before you say anything you haven't been there for him and Jessie has," I put in.
"I don't want him near my son," he hissed and for the first time I began to feel scared.
"You don't have a choice," I argued, although my voice sounded weak and unconvincing.
"Don't test me Larnika," Luciano warned and I stepped back a little warily.
Vincenzo stood behind me, "Oh don't worry about it Larnika, I've had that from him to. Luciano isn't as determined to carry out his threats, test him all you want," Vincenzo told me laughily
Luciano jaw tensed he looks like he was seconds away from attacking him, he even let out a growl.
All I wanted was out of this situation, "If you have no other reason for being here I'd like you to leave," I snapped turning all their attentions back to me.

A click sounded before they arrived and I turned to see Leviticus and Jessie walk in. As soon as Leviticus saw Luciano his entire face lit up, "Padre," he called, running and hugging Luciano.

I had never seen Leviticus more happy in his life and I cursed Luciano from depriving his son his attention. Vincenzo had put an arm around my waist as Jessie stepped forward and I felt the familiar tingle, my body's reaction to his touch.

Half of me wanted him to let go, the other half not so much.
"What's going on?" Jessie asked confused and by his face a little hurt.
I attempted to walk towards him but Vincenzo held me back, I glared at him furious.
"Rain, take Leviticus out," Luciano ordered.
Rain seemed conflicted but nodded, it was Leviticus who put up the fight. "Not unless its okay with Mema," he said, snapping his hand away from Rain.
"Do as your told," Luciano told him.
"No, I'll listen to Mema," he countered looking over at me.
Half of me was tempted to tell him to stay but I knew that whatever was about to happen, would happen regardless of whether Leviticus was here or not.
"Its okay, go with Auntie Rain," I told him.
"Are you sure?" he asked me, obviously surprised. I nodded, not trusting myself to speak. Leviticus hesitated before taking Rain's hand as she led him out. I struggled against Vincenzo viciously as soon as Leviticus was out of sight but I had no chance against him.
"Let go of her," Jessie shouted, coming closer.

"No Jessie don't," I protested because all of a sudden I didn't trust this situation. I had never seen Vincenzo like this and now I wasn't sure what was going to happen. Jessie shook his head I could tell he was furious, "No they can't come into our home like this, so let her go and get out," Jessie yelled.
What happened next seemed to happen in slow motion, I saw Luciano and Vincenzo look at each other as if having a silent conversation. Vincenzo pushed me over to Luciano who caught me in his arms, steadying me. By the time I looked up I saw Vincenzo had grabbed Jessie and I didn't know what to think. His mouth was by his neck and if Jessie hadn't cried out in pain I would have thought he was trying to kiss him or something. As soon as I realized Jessie was in pain, I fought Luciano with all I had.
 "Get off me," I screamed.

Vincenzo looked up at me, teeth covered in blood as Jessie dropped to the ground.
"No," I yelled, Vincenzo smiled a sick smile. Luciano was still holding me but I bit him in the hopes of getting to Vincenzo and killing him.

"Calm down, Larnika," Luciano whispered into my ear and all of a sudden I was calm. Technically I knew I should be feeling angry and sad about seeing Jessie on the floor, but I felt numb. Now that I looked closer I saw Vincenzo teeth were fangs, I supposed that meant he was a vampire.

"Your son is crying, tend to him," Luciano told me, for the first time I realized our fighting had awoken Greyson who was screaming.

"Yes I should," I muttered, disappearing to Greyson's bedroom and calming him down.
"What dat?" he asked when I came in.
"Nothing," I assured, "you need to go back to sleep."
"Where Daddy?" he questioned me his lip quivering.
"He's not good right now, he might be gone," I told him, no emotion in my voice.
I knew I should be sad at this, I loved Jessie but whatever Luciano had done to me made sure I didn't. Greyson looked about to burst into tears but I quickly started singing something I knew would calm him down.

"I don't understand," I said when I came back out.
"We're vampires," Luciano told me.
Vincenzo flashed a grin but I wasn't paying attention to him I looked past him to Jessie's body.
"I know," I finally said, hadn't I guessed that?
"What do you want me with me?" I asked that was what I didn't get. It didn't take me long with my mind so clear to work out Rain was a vampire and Leviticus too, but what did Vincenzo want with me? Luciano I understand I had his kid, although why he chose me baffles me.
"Larnika, you are special," Vincenzo tells me as he takes my hand. I'm glad my emotions aren't working at the moment because I knew I would still feel that tingle around him, even now when I know what he is. "Why?" I questioned.
"Larnika, how do you feel about immortality?" Vincenzo asked me.
The question caught me off guard, "I guess it would be nice," I ventured.
Although their version of immortality, sucking the life out of others didn't appeal to me. "No Larnika, we're not talking about vampires, true immortality having no weakness," Luciano corrected my mistake.
It took me a second to realize I hadn't said anything out loud, "How?" I said confused.
"Vampires," Vincenzo said grinning, I had no doubt he was proud of what he was.

However it worried me to think that my thoughts were no longer safe. "True immortality, Larnika when nothing and no one can kill you. To have no weakness and no fear. The world would quite literally be at your feet," Vincenzo explained to me.
"Its sounds like a fairytale," I commented.
"Almost a fairytale," Luciano told me.
"Immortality was robbed from our race, replaced with weakness and death, but not for much longer," Vincenzo said, making me frown. I still had no idea, what I had to do with any of this, or why they were telling me.
"You Larnika will return our race to its former glory," Luciano told me answering the question that I had asked in my head.
"How?" I questioned feeling more confused than ever.
