My name is Larnika Butler, but that's not important. What's important is what I've done, and maybe possibly what I released into the world. If you want to read a story with a happy ending I suggest you look somewhere, because nothing about this story could be described as happy. I suppose to understand I must tell the story from the start...
"Larnika Jay Butler we are going to rule this town," my best friend declared as she helped me move into my tiny apartment in Bridgeport.
Butterflies swirled around my stomach, I hadn't wanted to move from Sunset Valley I actually really liked it but Rainflower she had other plans for me.
"Can't we just live together," I complained, if I had to move to Bridgeport for Rain the least she could do is not force me to be alone. Rain just laughed, and it was contagious her twinkling laugh making me forget about my worries. Though the truth was the life Rain had foreseen for us wasn't the life I wanted for us to be famous celebrities in the big sister. In honesty all I wanted was to paint and write famous book that might some day be published.
"Tell you what me you, clubbing tonight," Rain proposes.
I shifted my feet looking down, didn't she understand that was my idea of hell. I was an introvert pure and simple and Rain happened to be my exact opposite. I don't know when Rain and I become friends she's just always been there, by my side taking care of me and always pushing me out of my comfort zone. "You know I think I just want an early night," I tell her hoping just this once she'll let it go.
"No," Rain says firmly, "you are going to dress up and come out with me. Its your first night in Bridgeport we have to celebrate."
"But you'll just leave me and then I'll be alone," I protest, it was normally what happened, Rain just had a way with people.
Rain sighed, "You'll have lots of people talking to you, you have no idea how special you are. Besides in truth I promised my boss I'd check this new place out okay," she admits to me. I smile at the thought of Rain having a boss, "We wouldn't want to disappoint our boss would we?" I joked holding back a laugh. Rain crossed her arms, "Hey everyone has their debts to pay, we've all got to work for someone," she tells me and her voice takes on a sad tone when she says it. That tone gets to me, "Okay Rain make me beautiful," I say admitting defeat to her and giving her a hug.
Rain squeals excitedly before pulling out clothes from her own bag, I almost rolled my eyes.
A couple of hours later I appeared at the door of a club a completely different girl. Larnika was gone replaced by her cooler counterpart Larni.
Rain has to be somebody around here because the bouncer didn't even blink before letting us.
"My boss," Rain explains shrugging before going up to the bar and getting a drink.
"Who exactly is your boss?" I ask cautiously she never really talked about her job and he hadn't bothered me.
Rain smiled, "Mr Ferrari is kind of a big name around here he owns most of the film companies and quite a few of the clubs," she explains to me.
"Oh," I look around me, "so are we checking out the competition," I ask confused as to why they let us in. "No we're seeing if its worth buying," Rain says before he entire face lights up, "I'll be back," she quickly tells me before disappearing to the other side of the room before leaving me alone again.
I wasn't alone for long at least some guy came up and talked to me but the things he said told me he was only interested in one thing getting me into his bed. I politely left him that wasn't the sort of person I was, I had never been with a man like that. As I turned around I was shocked to bump into someone and my drink sprayed all over him.
"Oh sorry," I mutter blushing when I saw the guy I had bumped into to. It was impossible to say he wasn't good looking and that was a problem for me.
"Its fine the fault was mine," he says to me kindly, seeming to be waiting for something.
"Larnika," I murmur guessing he wanted my name.
"The fault was mine Larnika, it’s a pleasure to meet you," he tells me kissing the back of my hand like a proper gentleman, I blushed again, "I'm Vincenzo De Luca," he introduces himself.
Its foggy but I'm sure I've heard that name somewhere, but it flees from just as I feel I'm about to remember. I ended up talking to Vincenzo the rest of the night, I didn't even know where Rain had gone, but the first time I wasn't bothered. He was the first person who actually seemed to care about what I wanted and what I was interested in, which was I first.
The rest of the night passed as a blur I vaguely remember he taking me home, after I admitted I didn't have a ride.
"Larnika Butler I'm so glad I meet you," he told me kissing the back of my hand again, as we stood at the bottom of my apartment building.
"You don't want to come in," I asked nervously, in truth I didn't want him to leave.
A hint of a smile covered Vincenzo face before he shook his head gently stroking my cheek,
"Larnika you are far to special to waste on one night," he murmured into my ear kissing my cheek.
I shut my eyes leaning into him but all of a sudden I felt cold and when I opened my eyes again he was gone. As I felt the elevator left me up something was bothering me and it wasn't until I curled up in bed that I realized what, the way he called me special distinctively reminded me of Rain and that bothered me.
I shook the thought away I was being stupid, it was nothing.
