Chapter 2 Luciano Ferrari

"Get up," Rain orders almost pulling me out of bed.
I open my eyes, wiping away the sleep, "Just a sec," I mutter.

I look up at Rain reluctantly seeing her with her hands on her hips, "Not just a sec, what happened to you last night?" she asked.
"What happened to you?" I retort getting out of bed.
Rain shook her head, "I got caught up but tell me what you did," she says excitedly almost jumping up and down.

The events of last night come back to me and a smile crosses my lips, "Well don't have a heart attack but," I start teasingly, "I meet a guy."
I think Rain could have died of shock, "Who, I need everything details the lot," she squealed like a little kid about to get candy.
"His name's Vincenzo De Luca," I told her, wondering if she'd meet him.

Rain entire face changed from joy to dread, "He didn't," she muttered under her breath,

"you know who he is right?" she asked louder.
I frowned at her question, was I meant to? "No," I said weakly. "We don't know for certain, but really we know that Vincenzo De Luca is head of the biggest crime gang in Bridgeport, he's been on the news a couple times," Rain reminded me.
I knew I heard his name from somewhere but I just can't remember it, "Not really," I admitted.
"That ass," she muttered under her breath again. "Do you know him?" I asked her curious, she certainly seemed as if she knew him.
"No, everyone's just heard about him you know," she told me shrugging, "just promise me not to go near him again, he's bad news."
I sighed how come the only guy who seemed interested in me was a criminal maybe it was a sign, "Its not like we exchanged numbers or anything," I said bitterly.

I wasn't angry at Rain, I was angry at myself for falling for Vincenzo's charm and still believing that he wasn't a bad person.
Rain smiles happy with my answer, "Don't worry there's tons of great guys out there, and my boss has invited as to Plasma 501 for drinks tonight," Rain declared as if it was a marvelous thing.
I groaned, "Do I have to?" I questioned.
Rain looked a tad angry, "Yes you do, you don't turn down a Ferrari invitation okay its just not done," she scolded me.
I put my hands up, "Okay, okay, I'll come I'm just still getting over last night." Rain nodded feeling happy with herself.

Checking the clock it was two o clock this couldn't become a habit, quickly I ran into town to grab a few things and some seeds.

I had always loved plants and was looking forward to placing some indoor ones, it might remind me a bit of home. That's when I saw him again, Vincenzo, he hopped out of a limo and lots of people came up.

He certainly was famous I was denying that but when I saw him I went a little weak. I was wearing my day to day wear and I wished I dressed up a bit better, I mentally slapped myself, despite his charm he couldn't be trusted. As soon as he saw me he walked over and I looked for anywhere to flee, but I couldn't just leave now. As Vincenzo kissed my hand again I could hear people whispering asking who I was. "Larnika," he murmured, and the way he said my name was intoxicating.

"Vincenzo," I replied, taking a step back just to get away from him.  "I didn't expect to see you here," he said to me, but something about his tone told me he did.

I nearly hit myself again, just because he may not be the best person doesn't mean he was a stalker creep. "I just had to get a few things, which I really need to get back to," I told him pointing to the shop, though my voice lacked determination.

"Of course, I couldn't interest you in dinner sometime," he offered and a voice inside my head screamed yes.
"I can't," I finally replied regretfully. Vincenzo seemed surprised by my rejection and muttered something under his breath like Rain had, these two had to have met.
"Very well Larnika, I hope to see you again some time," he said kissing my cheek.
Part of me wanted to just call out and tell him of course I would go to dinner with him, but the sensible side pushed me inside the shop to get my groceries.

Turning up to Plasma 501 I felt like Rain's showcase and the feeling wasn't a welcome one.

She knew everyone here and quite a few of them gave me an odd look, as if I was a piece of meat or something akin to it. I shivered wishing I had never come, to make matters worse I couldn't work out why I was here. Her boss hadn't arrived and I didn't know why he had invited me here, Rain left me again, the whole night was turning out to be my idea of a disaster.
Until of course Mr Ferrari arrived, you didn't have to be told it was him, it was obvious.

The subtle way everyone turned to look when he walked in the door, the way all the girls sat up straighter as if trying to give him a better view of their assets as he walked past, and how the men hesitated on what they were doing as if he might not approve. He was younger than I expected, the way Rain had described him make me think he was middle-aged but he only looked in his early twenties. Rain walked confidently up to him giving him a hug and I could see a few jealous looks being passed her way.

A whispered conversation ensured between the two of them and I could see Rain nod her head my way.

When his eyes landed on me I think I had a heart attack, he had the same killer look of Vincenzo and I couldn't ignore it. Even if it did turn my in to one of the many girls around the club. He walked right over to me, "Luciano Ferrari, and you must be the lovely Larnika," he said taking the seat next to me.

I nodded, "Its nice to meet you," I admitted a little tongue tied.
Luciano just smiled amused at my reaction to him and to be honest probably used to it, "Adric another drink for the girl," he told the bartender winking, "if of course she doesn't mind," he said turning back to me.
Adric seemed to be waiting, "Not at all," I said to him smiling. "So Rainflower has told me all about you," he said to me and the way he said it made me blush.
"Then its probably not that accurate," I muttered and then cursed myself he obviously valued Rain as an employee.
Luciano laughed, "Rainflower does have a way with that tongue of hers, but she'd never lie to me."
"Really?" I asked surprised because Rain even lied to me.
"Really," he confirmed, "that's how I know you want to become an author and have no interest in the big city except for of course Rainflower," he informed me.
I blushed, what else had Rain told him? Did that girl have no control?
"She's my best friend," I finally decided on saying.
Luciano chuckled like I was making a joke, "Best friend indeed."
It seemed as though he was implying that there was something else behind it. Despite some of Luciano's comments, I really loved his company he was honest. He told me that he was like me and hadn't wanted a city life but life had other plans for me. We talked through most of the night and I didn't even realize it was closing up time, by that time I was a little unsteady on my feet and didn't argue when Luciano took me home.
I couldn't quite believe that I had done this two nights in a row, unlike Vincenzo Luciano had no qualms about coming up to my place.

He placed me in bed and was apparently about to leave but I had other plans, for some reason I wanted him and he wasn't going to leave until I got what I wanted.

It wasn't like me and it was hard to believe the thoughts were mine, but in the end I got everything I wanted and more and in the early hours of the morning fell asleep with Luciano at my side.
